Fricker Cup 2016 Helps Raise Money for Brother Haughn’s Family

Despite weather forecasts showing 80% chance of thunderstorms during the 2016 Fricker Cup, the brothers experienced beautiful skies throughout the day. Thirty minutes after the last teams finished the skies went very dark and a deluge of rain fell for almost an hour! Perhaps Brother Haughn, from his celestial position had made the special weather request to help those that had come out to help his family?

Unlike previous years, this year's Fricker Cup included a philanthropic purpose: to raise money for the Haughn Strong Fund, an educational fund to help the four children of Brother Chris Haughn after he passed away suddenly this summer.

The teams purchased Mulligans, Kessler Magical Putting Tape and the Eddie Fricker Switcheroo card to raise over $700. In addition, a portion of the registration fee was dedicated for the fund and several of the brothers made additional donations. All total, over $1000 was raised by this years participants.

Meanwhile, other alumni have been contributing to the total which now exceeds $3000! Over 28 alumni have contributed with several from other decades who didn't know Brother Haughn.

The event kicked off Friday night with alumni enjoying appetizers, beer and bowling at the Corner Alley Downtown a block away from the historic Public Square, Jack Casino and Quicken Arena, the Home of the NBA Champions the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The 2016 Fricker Cup was played at the Little Mountain Country Club on Saturday, September 10. The two man format with combined net score on the front nine and a Chapman Alternating shot format on the back nine produced competitive scores. Ultimately it was the hometown team of Brothers Dave Ledman and Rick Sippola that posted a winning score of 98 including one hole in one thanks to the Kessler Magical Putting Tape!

This year's event had a little controversy with the final group playing a scramble format instead of the alternating shot format forcing the FC Rules Committee to disqualify those teams because of the advantage.  At the awards ceremony afterwards the players were awarded a special prize of reading glasses to help them read the rules! The Brothers took the news well and in good spirits,  remaining grateful for the opportunity to help Brother Haughn's family.

An awards dinner and party followed at the home of Brother Rick Sippola who cooked steaks for everyone. Before handing out prizes, Brothers Bill Beringer and Dominic Favazzo shared memories both recent and from college of Brother Hee-Haw-Haughn (a knickname he earned for his big friendly smile). Brother Beringer led a prayer before dinner thankful for the weekend and in supplication for the Haughn family.
